Francis Hutcheson
Francis Hutcheson was an 18th-century Scottish philosopher known for his contributions to moral philosophy and the development of the Scottish Enlightenment. Born in 1694, he emphasized the importance of human emotions and moral sense in ethical decision-making, arguing that people have an innate ability to discern right from wrong.
Hutcheson is best known for his work, A System of Moral Philosophy, where he introduced the idea of a "moral sense" that guides human behavior. His thoughts influenced later philosophers, including David Hume and Adam Smith, and laid the groundwork for modern ethical theories that prioritize feelings and social welfare.
