Fourth World
The term "Fourth World" refers to nations or groups that are marginalized and impoverished, often within or alongside more developed nations. It highlights the struggles of indigenous peoples and communities that face systemic inequalities, lack of resources, and limited political representation. These groups often maintain distinct cultural identities while grappling with the impacts of globalization and colonization.
The concept was popularized by anthropologist George Manuel in the 1970s, emphasizing the need for recognition and rights for these communities. The Fourth World contrasts with the First World (developed countries), Second World (communist countries), and Third World (developing nations), focusing on the plight of those who remain overlooked in global discussions.
