Fort Wilkins
Fort Wilkins is a historic military outpost located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Established in 1844, it was built to maintain order during the copper mining boom and to protect settlers from potential conflicts with Native American tribes. The fort features several restored buildings, including barracks and a guardhouse, which provide insight into 19th-century military life.
Today, Fort Wilkins is part of the Fort Wilkins Historic State Park, where visitors can explore the grounds and learn about its history through guided tours and reenactments. The park also offers recreational activities, such as hiking and fishing, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
