Fort Wilkins Historic State Park
Fort Wilkins Historic State Park is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, near the town of Copper Harbor. Established in 1844, the fort was built to maintain order during the copper mining boom. Today, visitors can explore the well-preserved fort structures, including barracks and a guardhouse, which provide insight into military life in the 19th century.
The park also features scenic trails and access to Lake Superior, making it a popular destination for hiking, fishing, and camping. In addition to the fort, the park offers educational programs and events that highlight the history of the Copper Mining era and the U.S. Army.
