Fort Fisher
Fort Fisher is a historic military site located in North Carolina, near the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Built during the Civil War, it was designed to protect the vital port of Wilmington from Union naval blockades. The fort played a significant role in the Confederacy's supply chain and was one of the last strongholds to fall in 1865.
Today, Fort Fisher is part of the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and features preserved earthworks and a visitor center. It offers educational programs and exhibits about its history, making it a popular destination for those interested in Civil War history and coastal ecology.
