Formosus
Formosus was a pope who served from 891 to 896 AD. He is best known for his controversial actions, including the ordination of several bishops and his involvement in the political struggles of the time. His papacy was marked by conflicts with the Byzantine Empire and various factions within the Roman Catholic Church.
After his death, Formosus was posthumously tried in a symbolic trial known as the Cadaver Synod. His corpse was exhumed and put on trial for alleged crimes, leading to a scandal that highlighted the political turmoil of the era. This event remains one of the most bizarre episodes in papal history.
