Football History
Football, known as soccer in some countries, has roots tracing back to ancient civilizations, with games resembling football played in China, Greece, and Rome. The modern version began in the 19th century in England, where various clubs established rules, leading to the formation of the Football Association in 1863, which standardized the game.
The sport quickly gained popularity, spreading across Europe and beyond. The first international match took place in 1872 between Scotland and England. In 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded, overseeing international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, which began in 1930 and remains the sport's most prestigious tournament.
