Flying Mammals
Flying mammals are animals that have the ability to glide or fly through the air. The most well-known flying mammals are bats, which belong to the order Chiroptera. Bats have wings made of a thin membrane stretched between their elongated fingers, allowing them to maneuver skillfully in the dark. They play essential roles in ecosystems, such as pollinating plants and controlling insect populations.
Another example of a flying mammal is the flying squirrel. Unlike bats, flying squirrels do not truly fly but glide using a special membrane called a patagium that stretches from their wrists to their ankles. This adaptation allows them to travel between trees in search of food and escape predators.
