Fluoroalkanes
Fluoroalkanes are a group of organic compounds that contain carbon and fluorine atoms. They are derived from alkanes, where one or more hydrogen atoms are replaced by fluorine. These compounds are known for their stability and low reactivity, making them useful in various applications, including as refrigerants and solvents.
Due to the presence of fluorine, fluoroalkanes exhibit unique properties, such as low surface tension and high resistance to chemical degradation. They are often used in the production of Teflon, a non-stick coating, and in aerosol propellants. However, some fluoroalkanes can contribute to environmental concerns, particularly regarding ozone depletion.
