Floodgates
Floodgates are structures designed to control the flow of water in rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. They can be opened or closed to manage water levels, preventing flooding in surrounding areas. By regulating water flow, floodgates help protect infrastructure and communities from the damaging effects of excessive water.
These gates are often part of larger systems, such as dams or levees, and can be operated manually or automatically. When heavy rainfall or snowmelt occurs, floodgates can be closed to retain water, while during dry periods, they can be opened to release water for irrigation or other uses.
