First Modern Olympics
The first modern Olympics took place in Athens, Greece, in 1896. This event marked the revival of the ancient Olympic Games, which had been held in Olympia from 776 BC until 393 AD. The modern Olympics were organized by Pierre de Coubertin, who aimed to promote international peace and unity through sports.
The inaugural event featured 13 countries and included 43 events across nine sports, such as athletics, swimming, and wrestling. The games were a significant success, attracting thousands of spectators and laying the foundation for the global sporting tradition that continues today.
