The 1896 Summer Olympics, held in Athens, Greece, marked the first modern Olympic Games. Revived by Pierre de Coubertin, the event featured athletes from 13 nations competing in 43 events across nine sports. The opening ceremony took place on April 6, 1896, at the Panathenaic Stadium, which was originally built in 330 BC. The games concluded on April 15, with Greece winning the most medals, including the first gold medal awarded to Spyridon Louis in the marathon event, symbolizing the revival of the Olympic spirit.
