First Fleet
The First Fleet was a group of ships that set sail from England in May 1787, carrying the first group of convicts to Australia. This fleet consisted of 11 ships, including the famous HMS Sirius and Charlotte, and arrived at Botany Bay in January 1788. The journey aimed to establish a penal colony, as British prisons were overcrowded.
Upon arrival, the fleet's commander, Captain Arthur Phillip, chose to move the settlement to Port Jackson, which is now part of Sydney. The First Fleet marked the beginning of European colonization in Australia and significantly impacted the indigenous Aboriginal population and their lands.
