Fiddler Crabs
Fiddler crabs are small crustaceans found in coastal habitats, particularly in mangroves and salt marshes. They are known for their distinctive claws, with males having one claw significantly larger than the other, resembling a fiddle. This oversized claw is used for communication and attracting mates.
These crabs are typically active during low tide, foraging for food such as algae and detritus. They dig burrows in the sand, which provide shelter from predators and harsh environmental conditions. Fiddler crabs play an important role in their ecosystems by aerating the soil and recycling nutrients.
