Hermit Crabs
Hermit crabs are small crustaceans that belong to the family Coenobitidae. Unlike true crabs, they have soft abdomens that require protection, which they find by occupying empty shells, often from snails. As they grow, hermit crabs will switch to larger shells, making them unique among crustaceans.
These creatures are primarily found in coastal areas and are known for their scavenging behavior, feeding on detritus and decaying organic matter. Hermit crabs are social animals and often live in groups, communicating through various behaviors and sounds. They play an important role in their ecosystems by helping to recycle nutrients.
