Fersenbein
The term "Fersenbein" refers to the heel bone in humans, known scientifically as the calcaneus. It is the largest bone in the foot and plays a crucial role in supporting body weight and facilitating movement. The calcaneus connects with other bones in the foot, including the talus above and the metatarsals in front.
In addition to its structural importance, the Fersenbein serves as an attachment point for various ligaments and tendons, including the Achilles tendon. This tendon connects the calf muscles to the heel bone, enabling activities such as walking, running, and jumping.
