Fanmi Lavalas
Fanmi Lavalas is a political party in Haiti founded in 1996 by supporters of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The party emerged from a grassroots movement advocating for social justice and democracy, aiming to represent the interests of the poor and marginalized in Haitian society.
The name "Lavalas" means "avalanche" in Haitian Creole, symbolizing a sweeping change in the political landscape. Over the years, Fanmi Lavalas has faced challenges, including political repression and internal divisions, but it remains a significant force in Haitian politics, particularly among the lower-income population.
