Factor VII
Factor VII is a protein produced by the liver that plays a crucial role in the blood coagulation process. It is part of the extrinsic pathway of blood clotting, which is activated when blood vessels are injured. When activated, Factor VII helps to initiate the cascade of reactions that lead to the formation of a blood clot, preventing excessive bleeding.
Deficiency in Factor VII can lead to a bleeding disorder known as Factor VII deficiency, which is rare but can cause prolonged bleeding after injuries or surgeries. Treatment often involves replacement therapy with Factor VII concentrates to help manage bleeding episodes and maintain normal clotting function.
