FTPS, or File Transfer Protocol Secure, is an extension of the standard File Transfer Protocol (FTP) that adds a layer of security. It uses the Transport Layer Security (TLS) or its predecessor, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), to encrypt the data being transferred. This ensures that sensitive information, such as passwords and files, is protected from unauthorized access during transmission over the internet.
FTPS operates in two modes: explicit and implicit. In explicit mode, the client requests a secure connection before any data is transferred, while in implicit mode, the connection is automatically secured. This flexibility allows users to choose the level of security that best fits their needs while transferring files securely.
