F Scale
The "F Scale," or "Fascism Scale," is a psychological tool developed to measure authoritarian and fascist tendencies in individuals. It was created by Theodor W. Adorno and his colleagues in the 1950s as part of their research on personality traits associated with prejudice and discrimination. The scale consists of a series of statements that respondents agree or disagree with, helping to identify their political and social attitudes.
The F Scale is based on the idea that certain personality traits, such as rigidity and conformity, can predispose individuals to authoritarian beliefs. It aims to provide insights into how these traits correlate with support for fascist ideologies, allowing researchers to better understand the psychological underpinnings of extremist views.
