Enhanced Fujita Scale
The Enhanced Fujita Scale is a system used to classify the intensity of tornadoes based on the damage they cause. It ranges from EF0, indicating light damage, to EF5, which signifies incredible damage with wind speeds exceeding 200 mph. This scale helps meteorologists and researchers assess the strength of tornadoes and improve safety measures.
Developed in 2007, the Enhanced Fujita Scale replaced the original Fujita Scale, which was created by Dr. T. Theodore Fujita in 1971. The new scale incorporates updated damage indicators and better reflects the actual wind speeds associated with tornadoes, providing a more accurate assessment of their impact.
