Ezo deer
The Ezo deer, also known as Sika deer, is a subspecies native to the northern regions of Japan, particularly Hokkaido. These deer are medium-sized, with males typically larger than females. They have a distinctive coat that changes color with the seasons, featuring spots in summer and a more uniform brown in winter.
Ezo deer are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and shrubs. They are known for their adaptability to various habitats, including forests and grasslands. Due to habitat loss and hunting, their populations have fluctuated, leading to conservation efforts to protect their natural environment.
