Eurocommunism
Eurocommunism was a political movement that emerged in the 1970s within various European communist parties, particularly in Italy, France, and Spain. It sought to adapt Marxist principles to the democratic context of Western Europe, promoting a more pluralistic and democratic approach to socialism, in contrast to the authoritarian models seen in the Soviet Union.
The movement emphasized the importance of national contexts and democratic processes, advocating for reforms that would allow for greater political freedoms and civil rights. Eurocommunists aimed to distance themselves from the Soviet Union and its influence, promoting a vision of socialism that was more aligned with European democratic traditions.
