Eureka Stockade
The Eureka Stockade was a significant rebellion that took place in 1854 in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. It was led by gold miners who were frustrated with the high costs of mining licenses and the lack of representation in government. The miners built a makeshift stockade to defend their rights and protest against the colonial authorities.
The conflict culminated in a violent clash on December 3, 1854, when government troops attacked the stockade. Although the miners were defeated, the rebellion highlighted issues of governance and rights, ultimately leading to reforms in the mining laws and greater political representation for the miners.
