Erect-Crested Penguin
The Erect-Crested Penguin is a medium-sized penguin native to the sub-Antarctic islands, particularly Bounty Islands and Campbell Island. It is easily recognized by its distinctive yellow crest that extends from its eyes to the back of its head. These penguins typically grow to about 50 centimeters in height and weigh between 2.5 to 4.5 kilograms.
Erect-Crested Penguins primarily feed on small fish and krill, diving into the ocean to catch their prey. They are known for their loud, braying calls and often nest in rocky areas, where they build their nests using stones and vegetation. Their population is currently considered vulnerable due to habitat loss and predation by introduced species.
