Epiphytic Ferns
Epiphytic ferns are unique plants that grow on other surfaces, such as trees or rocks, without harming them. They obtain moisture and nutrients from the air, rain, and debris that collects around them. This adaptation allows them to thrive in various environments, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions.
Unlike terrestrial ferns, epiphytic ferns have specialized structures called trichomes that help them absorb water and nutrients. Common examples include staghorn ferns and bird's nest ferns. These ferns play a vital role in their ecosystems by providing habitat and contributing to the biodiversity of their surroundings.
