Emperor Yang, also known as Yang Guang, was the second emperor of the Sui Dynasty in China, ruling from 604 to 618 AD. He is often remembered for his ambitious projects, including the construction of the Grand Canal, which aimed to improve trade and transportation between northern and southern China. His reign was marked by significant infrastructure development but also heavy taxation and forced labor.
Despite his initial successes, Emperor Yang's rule faced increasing discontent due to his extravagant lifestyle and military campaigns, particularly against Korea. This unrest ultimately led to widespread rebellion, contributing to the fall of the Sui Dynasty and the rise of the Tang Dynasty.
