Emperor Guangxu
Emperor Guangxu was the ninth emperor of the Qing Dynasty in China, ruling from 1875 to 1908. Born on August 14, 1871, he ascended to the throne at the age of four after the death of his predecessor, Emperor Tongzhi. His reign was marked by attempts at modernization and reform, known as the Hundred Days' Reform, which aimed to strengthen China against foreign powers.
However, Guangxu's reforms faced strong opposition from conservative factions within the government, particularly from his aunt, Empress Dowager Cixi. In 1898, she effectively seized control, placing Guangxu under house arrest. He died on November 14, 1908, just one day after Cixi, leaving a legacy of unfulfilled potential for reform in China.
