Emesis
Emesis is the medical term for vomiting, which is the forceful expulsion of the contents of the stomach through the mouth. It can occur due to various reasons, including infections, motion sickness, or food poisoning. Emesis is a protective reflex that helps the body eliminate harmful substances.
In some cases, emesis can be a symptom of an underlying condition, such as gastroenteritis or pregnancy. While occasional vomiting is usually not serious, persistent emesis may require medical attention to prevent dehydration and other complications. Treatment often focuses on addressing the underlying cause and providing supportive care.
