Elizabeth of the Palatinate
Elizabeth of the Palatinate (1596-1662) was a German princess and the daughter of Frederick V, Elector Palatine and Elizabeth Stuart. She became the Queen of Bohemia through her marriage to Frederick V, who was briefly King of Bohemia. Elizabeth is often remembered for her role in the Thirty Years' War and her efforts to support her husband’s claim to the throne.
After her husband's defeat at the Battle of White Mountain in 1620, Elizabeth lived in exile in The Hague. She was a patron of the arts and corresponded with notable intellectuals of her time, including René Descartes. Elizabeth's legacy includes her influence on the Stuart dynasty and her contributions to European culture.
