Elephanta Island
Elephanta Island is located in Mumbai Harbour, about 11 kilometers from the city of Mumbai, India. It is famous for its ancient rock-cut temples, primarily dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts many tourists who come to explore its intricate sculptures and historical significance.
The island is divided into two main groups of caves: Hindu caves and Buddhist caves. The most notable cave, known as the Elephanta Caves, features a large sculpture of Trimurti, a representation of Shiva with three heads. Visitors can reach the island by ferry, making it a popular day trip destination.
