Eleonora of Arborea
Eleonora of Arborea was a 14th-century noblewoman and the last female ruler of the Judicate of Arborea, a region in Sardinia. She is best known for her efforts to defend her territory against external threats and for her role in promoting the rights of her people. Eleonora was a skilled diplomat and military leader, navigating complex political landscapes during her reign.
In 1392, she issued the Carta de Logu, a legal code that established laws and rights for her subjects, emphasizing justice and social order. This document is considered one of the earliest examples of a written legal system in Sardinia and reflects her commitment to governance and the welfare of her people.
