Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale
Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale (1871-1945) was an English painter and illustrator known for her work in the early 20th century. She was associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and often depicted themes from mythology, literature, and the Arthurian legends. Her style combined detailed realism with a dreamlike quality, making her art distinctive.
Fortescue-Brickdale was also a skilled book illustrator, contributing to various publications, including works by William Morris and John Keats. She was one of the few women artists of her time to gain recognition, and her contributions helped pave the way for future female artists in the Arts and Crafts Movement.
