Eelpout
The eelpout is a type of fish belonging to the family Zoarcidae, commonly found in cold waters of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. These fish have elongated bodies and can grow up to 30 inches long. Eelpouts are typically bottom-dwellers, residing in deep waters and often found near rocky or sandy substrates.
Eelpouts are known for their unique adaptations to cold environments, including antifreeze proteins that prevent their blood from freezing. They primarily feed on small invertebrates and fish. Some species of eelpout are also popular among anglers for their mild flavor and firm texture when cooked.
