Edward Smith-Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby
Edward Smith-Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby, was a British nobleman born on March 21, 1799. He was a prominent politician and served as a member of the Conservative Party. His political career included roles such as the Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, where he influenced military and colonial policies during the mid-19th century.
The Earl was also known for his contributions to horse racing, particularly as a patron of the Derby Stakes, a prestigious horse race named after his family. He held the title of Earl of Derby from 1851 until his death on October 30, 1851.
