Ecuador-Peru Relations
Ecuador and Peru share a complex history marked by territorial disputes, particularly over the Amazon rainforest region. Tensions peaked in the late 20th century, leading to military conflicts, most notably the 1995 Cenepa War. However, both countries have since worked towards peaceful resolutions and improved diplomatic relations.
In 1998, Ecuador and Peru signed the Peace Agreement in Brasilia, which established their current borders and fostered cooperation. Today, both nations engage in trade and cultural exchanges, focusing on mutual benefits and regional stability, while also collaborating on environmental issues affecting the Amazon basin.
