1995 Cenepa War
The 1995 Cenepa War was a brief conflict between Ecuador and Peru over a disputed border area in the Cenepa River region. The war began in January 1995 and lasted until February, resulting in military engagements between both countries. The conflict was rooted in historical territorial disputes dating back to the late 19th century.
The war ended with a ceasefire brokered by the Organization of American States (OAS). Following the conflict, both nations signed the Peace Accord in 1998, which established a definitive border and aimed to improve diplomatic relations. The Cenepa War highlighted the ongoing tensions in the region but ultimately led to a peaceful resolution.
