Ecchymosis
Ecchymosis is a medical term that refers to a discoloration of the skin resulting from bleeding underneath. It typically appears as a bruise, with colors ranging from purple to blue and eventually fading to yellow or green as it heals. Ecchymosis can occur due to trauma, injury, or certain medical conditions that affect blood clotting.
The size of an ecchymosis can vary, and it may be accompanied by swelling or tenderness in the affected area. While often harmless, persistent or unexplained ecchymosis may indicate underlying health issues, such as hemophilia or thrombocytopenia, and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
