Eastern Mole
The Eastern Mole is a small, burrowing mammal native to the eastern United States. It has a cylindrical body, short legs, and velvety fur, typically brown or gray. This species is well-adapted for life underground, with powerful forelimbs that help it dig extensive tunnel systems in search of food, primarily earthworms and insects.
Eastern Moles are solitary creatures and are most active during the night. They can create mounds of soil on the surface as they dig, which can be a nuisance for gardeners. Their role in the ecosystem includes aerating the soil and controlling insect populations, making them important for soil health.
