Early English
Early English refers to the stage of the English language spoken and written from around the 5th to the 12th century. This period includes the influence of various languages, particularly Old Norse from Viking invasions and Latin from the Christianization of England. The language was primarily a Germanic dialect brought by the Anglo-Saxons.
During this time, the language evolved significantly, leading to the development of Middle English after the Norman Conquest in 1066. Early English texts, such as Beowulf, showcase the language's structure and vocabulary, which laid the foundation for modern English.
