Eamonn Coghlan
Eamonn Coghlan is a retired Irish middle-distance runner, born on June 21, 1951, in Dublin, Ireland. He is best known for his achievements in the 5,000 meters and 1,500 meters events during the late 1970s and 1980s. Coghlan gained international recognition when he won the gold medal in the 5,000 meters at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics.
Throughout his career, Coghlan set multiple records, including being the first man to run a mile indoors in under 3 minutes and 50 seconds. He also represented Ireland in the Olympics, competing in the 1980 and 1984 games. After retiring from competitive running, he became involved in coaching and athletics administration.
