ECP Mode
ECP Mode, or Enhanced Capabilities Port Mode, is a communication protocol used in computer systems to connect peripherals like printers and scanners. It enhances the standard Parallel Port by allowing faster data transfer rates and improved functionality. ECP Mode supports bi-directional communication, enabling devices to send and receive data simultaneously.
This mode is particularly beneficial for high-speed devices, as it can transfer data at rates up to 2 megabytes per second. ECP Mode also includes features like DMA (Direct Memory Access) support, which allows devices to communicate directly with the computer's memory, reducing CPU load and improving overall performance.
