Duke Francis II of Brittany
Duke Francis II of Brittany (1435-1488) was the last independent Duke of Brittany. He ruled from 1450 until his death and was known for his efforts to maintain the autonomy of his duchy against the growing power of the Kingdom of France. Francis II faced numerous challenges, including conflicts with the French crown and internal strife within Brittany.
During his reign, Francis II sought to strengthen his position by forming alliances and marrying his daughters to influential nobles. His most notable daughter, Anne of Brittany, would later become queen consort of France, playing a crucial role in the political landscape of the time.
