Duke Charles Edward
Duke Charles Edward, also known as Charles Edward Stuart, was a Scottish nobleman born in 1720. He is best known for leading the Jacobite uprising in 1745, which aimed to restore the Stuart dynasty to the British throne. His efforts were marked by initial successes, including the capture of Edinburgh, but ultimately ended in defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
After the failed uprising, Charles Edward fled to France and lived in exile for many years. Despite his defeat, he became a symbol of Scottish nationalism and is often referred to as "Bonnie Prince Charlie." He died in 1788, leaving a lasting legacy in Scottish history.
