Prince Charles Edward Stuart
Prince Charles Edward Stuart, often known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie," was born in 1720 and was a key figure in the Jacobite uprisings. He was the grandson of James II of England and sought to restore the Stuart dynasty to the British throne. His most notable attempt was the 1745 uprising, which aimed to reclaim the throne from the Hanoverian kings.
Despite initial successes, the uprising ultimately failed at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. After this defeat, Charles fled to the Scottish Highlands and later to France, living in exile for the rest of his life. He died in 1788, leaving a legacy tied to Scottish nationalism.
