Drift Mining
Drift mining is a method used to extract minerals from underground deposits. It involves creating horizontal tunnels, or drifts, that follow the vein of ore. This technique is often employed when the mineral deposit is located close to the surface and can be accessed more easily than deeper deposits.
The process begins with the excavation of a tunnel, allowing miners to reach the ore without extensive vertical shafts. Drift mining is commonly used for extracting coal, gold, and other valuable minerals. It is considered safer and more efficient than some other mining methods, as it reduces the risk of cave-ins and allows for better ventilation.
