Dorsalis Pedis Artery
The Dorsalis Pedis Artery is a major blood vessel located on the top of the foot. It is a continuation of the Anterior Tibial Artery, which branches from the Popliteal Artery in the leg. This artery supplies oxygenated blood to the dorsal (top) part of the foot and the toes, playing a crucial role in foot circulation.
Clinically, the dorsalis pedis artery can be palpated to assess blood flow to the foot. Its presence and pulse are important indicators of vascular health. If the artery is absent or weak, it may suggest underlying conditions affecting circulation, such as peripheral artery disease.
