Dorsal Column-Medial Lemniscus Pathway
The Dorsal Column-Medial Lemniscus Pathway is a neural pathway in the central nervous system responsible for transmitting sensory information related to touch, vibration, and proprioception. It begins in the peripheral nerves, where sensory receptors detect stimuli and send signals to the spinal cord. From there, the signals travel up the spinal cord through the dorsal columns to the brainstem.
In the brainstem, the pathway synapses in the medial lemniscus, where the information is relayed to the thalamus and then to the somatosensory cortex of the brain. This pathway allows the brain to process and interpret sensory information, enabling the perception of touch and body position.
