Dong ethnic group
The Dong ethnic group is one of the 55 officially recognized ethnic minorities in China. Primarily residing in the Guizhou, Hunan, and Sichuan provinces, they are known for their rich cultural heritage, including unique traditions, music, and festivals. The Dong people are particularly famous for their wooden architecture and the construction of drum towers, which serve as community centers.
The Dong language belongs to the Tai-Kadai language family, and many Dong people also speak Mandarin Chinese. Agriculture is a significant part of their livelihood, with rice and corn being staple crops. The Dong community is also known for its vibrant textile arts, especially weaving, which reflects their cultural identity.
