Dominion of Ceylon
The Dominion of Ceylon was a self-governing entity within the British Empire, established in 1948. It marked the transition of Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka) from a British colony to a dominion, allowing for greater autonomy while still recognizing the British monarch as the head of state.
The dominion status lasted until 1972, when Ceylon became a republic. During this period, the country developed its political institutions and began to address issues related to national identity and governance, setting the stage for its future as an independent nation.
